The Columbus Invaders were part of the National Professional Soccer League, an professional indoor soccer league. They operated for only one season in 1996, after originally beginning as the Canton Invaders years prior. New ownership decided to move the team into the NPSL for the 1996-1997 season, and the team would use Battle Hall in Columbus, Ohio for their home games. The team would start 4-18 before firing their coach, ultimately finishing the season with five wins and thirty-five losses. With poor attendance around 1500 fans per game and the new MLS team coming to Columbus, it came as a surprise to no one that the Invaders promptly folded after their first season.
