Griffith Stadium was one of the most famous multi-use stadiums in the country. Boundary Park, which originally stood in its place, burned down on March 17th, 1911. This left the Washington Senators (now the Minnesota Twins) in a very tough position. Miraculously, in a matter of weeks a new park was built and made ready in time for Opening Day. 16,000 fans attended that game along with President William Howard Taft. The Senators would play here for 50 more seasons, along with several other teams including the Homestead Grays of the Nergo Leagues, and the Redskins for 24 seasons.
